On August 14, 1945, the Board of Foreign Missions received word that a group of Christian leaders were going to Japan to contact Christian leaders there. David Luther Vikner was born in Linju, Honan Province, China on January 1, 1916. He was the son of David Wilhelm Vikner and Lily Callerstrom Vikner, missionaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Augustana Synod of North America.
